How to Get Rid of Beard Dandruff (Beardruff)

How to Get Rid of Beard Dandruff (Beardruff)

Everyone who has one knows that growing a beard is no small feat. Fully grown beards can take anywhere between 3 and 6 months to grow, and for many the growing process can be riddled with obstacles both mental and physical. One of the most common irritations that arise from this is beard dandruff, frequently referred to as, “beardruff”.

Lucky for us there are a few different ways that beard dandruff can be cured and actually prevented all together. If you’re looking to get rid of your “beardruff” look no further. The team at Zeus has compiled a list of tips and tricks to stop this issue right in its tracks.

What Causes Bear Dandruff (Beardruff)

In most cases there are 2 major reasons people suffer from beard dandruff. The first one being dry skin and the second one being fungal infections. Dry skin usually happens when the skin under the beard has been in contact with the wrong cleansers or soaps. Using products riddled with harsh chemicals can strip oils from your beard and skin, causing it to dry and flake. Environmental factors such as extreme heat or cold can also contribute to dandruff, sometimes this is unavoidable.

If it’s not likely that wrong products or the environment is causing your beard to flake, it’s worth looking into fungal infections. Fungal infections occur when yeast that lives on your skin is deprived of sunlight that normally kills or slows fungal growth. If you have a beard blocking the sunlight, the fungus grows and causes the skin to dry and flake.

How To Prevent Beardruff: Step By Step

The good news that although this beard issue is challenging, it can solved fairly easily. If you implement some of these steps into your beard care routine, you’re sure to see a less flakey beard in your future.

1. Wash Your Beard

It all starts with a clean base. Washing your beard regularly is one of the most important steps in clearing away your beard dandruff. The most important thing to remember is that you need to make sure the product you use is specially formulated for beard care. Normal shampoo and soap that you use on your head and skin is generally too harsh for your heard, stripping away essential natural oils. Beard Shampoo and Conditioner is designed to work on thicker beard hair and will help to keep your follicles soft and moisturized. Using these products will ensure that your beard will get some much needed moisture, and prevent dry flakey skin.

2. Properly Dry Your Beard

Ironically, one way to prevent beard dandruff is to dry out your beard properly. Leaving your beard wet from the shower or the rain, may cause your beard to dry out and can also be the perfect breeding ground for dandruff inducing fungal infections. It’s worth noting that you should not be very aggressive in drying your beard with a towel or blow dryer. Drying your hair with high heat or for too long a time can be damaging to the hair follicles and lead to overall dryness of the hair shaft and the skin underneath. If you need to use a hairdryer, we recommend using the lower setting for blow drying your beard. If the towel is your drying tool of choice, try to dry less vigorously and use a gentle touch.

3. Brush Your Beard

Not only does brushing your beard keep it looking great, using a beard comb or a beard brush does a great job of assisting with beard dandruff and other beard problems. Brushing your beard exfoliates the skin underneath and encourages blood flow to area. Exfoliating dead skin is the best way to encourage new, healthy growth. It can also help indicate how much dandruff you actually have. If you notice a lot of flakes while brushing, you might suffer from “beardruff”.

4. Get in the Habit of Using Beard Oils and Beard Balms

Your skin has natural oils that act as anti-microbial barrier on your skin and keeps it from drying out. Using Beard Oils and Beard balms help with replacing missing oils that can fight off dryness and even fungus on flaky skin. Products such as Zeus Natural Beard Oil contain Safflower Seed, Argan Seed and Grape Seed oil have been proven to restore moisture and soften skin to prevent it from flaking.

Wherever you are in your beard journey, a good beard care routine is essential to health of your skin and the health of your beard. Equip yourself with the tools to prevent Beard Dandruff with a set like the Zeus Everyday Beard Care Kit and never have a flaky day again!
